Torrent or uTorrent (see Pronunciation) are BitTorrent’s own advertising programs designed and developed by BitTorrent, Inc. With over 150 million users, the BitTorrent client is used most often outside of China; usually behind Xunli. The sign (Greek letter “m”) in its name comes from the prefix SI “micro-” and refers to a small trace of program memory: the program is designed to use minimal computer resources, while offering functionality for larger BitTorrent clients, such as Vuze or BitComet,
The program has been actively developing since its first edition in 2005. Although originally developed by Ludwig Strigeus, as of December 7, 2006, the code is owned and maintained by BitTorrent, Inc. The code was also leased from BitTorrent, Inc. as a basis for version 6.0 and later versions of the BitTorrent client, renamed to version? Torrent. All versions are written in C ++.
