Introduction to Visual Studio
Visual Studio is an integrated development environment (IDE) developed by Microsoft to develop GUI (graphical user interface), console, web applications, web apps, mobile apps, cloud and web services and the like. With this IDE you can create managed code and embedded code. It uses the various platforms for Microsoft software development software such as Windows store, Microsoft Silverlight and Windows API, etc. It is not a language specific IDE because you can use this to write code in C #, C ++, VB (Visual Basic), Python, JavaScript and many more languages. It provides support for 36 different programming languages. It is available for Windows as well as for macOS.
Evolution of Visual Studio: The first version of VS (Visual Studio) was released in 1997, called Visual Studio 97 with version number 5.0. The latest version of Visual Studio is released 15.0 on March 7, 2017. Also called Visual Studio 2017. The .Net Framework versions supported in the latest Visual Studio are 3.5 to 4.7. Java is supported in older versions of Visual Studio but in the latest version it does not support Java language.
Visual Studio editions
There are three editions of Microsoft Visual Studio as follows:
1. Community: It is a free version that was published in 2014. All other editions are paid for. This includes features similar to Professional Edition. With this release, every single developer can develop their own free or paid apps like .Net applications, web applications and much more. In a corporate organization, this edition has some limitations. For example, if your organization has more than 250 computers and has annual revenue in excess of $ 1 million (US dollars), you may not be using this problem. In an unincorporated organization, this statement can be used by up to five users. Its main purpose is to provide the ecosystem (access to thousands of extensions) and languages (you can encode in C #, VB, F #, C ++, HTML, JavaScript, Python, etc. support).
2. Professional: This is Visual Studio’s commercial release. It is available in Visual Studio 2010 and later versions. It supports XML and XSLT editing and includes the tool such as Server Explorer and integration with Microsoft SQL Server. Microsoft provides a free trial of this release and after the trial period, the user must pay to continue using it. The primary purpose is to provide flexibility (professional developer tools to build all types of applications), productivity (powerful features that CodeLens enhance your team’s productivity), collaboration (agile project planning tools, charts, etc.) and subscriber benefits such as Microsoft software, along with Azure, Pluralsight and the like. .
3. Business: It is an integrated solution for all groups with challenging needs and scale. Microsoft provides a 90-day free trial of this release and after the trial period, the user must pay to continue using it. The main advantage of this release is that it is highly scalable and provides high quality software.
Start with Visual Studio 2017
First, you need to download and install Visual Studio. For this you can refer to Download and install Visual Studio 2017. Don’t forget to choose the .NET workload from VS-show 2017. If you forget,you change the installation.
You can see several tool windows when you open Visual Studio and start writing your first program as follows:
Code Editor: Where the user writes code.
Output window: Here Visual Studio displays outputs, compiler warnings, error messages and troubleshooting information.
Solution Explorer: Displays the files the user is currently working on.
Features: It will provide additional information and context on the selected parts of the current project.
A user can also add windows as needed by selecting them from the View menu. In Visual Studio, the tool windows can be customized because the user can add more windows, delete existing ones or move the windows around to best suit them.

Create, open and save project commands can be found in the File menu.
Find, modify, respond commands in the Edit menu.
The View menu is used to open additional tool windows in Visual Studio.
The project menu is used to add specific files and dependencies to the project.
To change the settings, add functionality to Visual Studio through extensions and access various Visual Studio tools can be used with the Tools menu.
The menu below is called the toolbar which provides quick access to the most commonly used commands. You can add and remove commands by going to View> Customize
Note:
Support for various programming languages is added to Visual Studio using a special VSPackage called Language Service.
When you install Visual Studio, the feature encoded as VSPackage will be available as a service.
Visual Studio IDE provides the three different types of services called SVsSolution, SVsUIShell and SVsShell.
The SVsolution service is used to provide functionality for calculating solutions and projects in Visual Studio.
The SVsUIShell service is used to provide user interface features such as toolbars, tabs, etc.
The SvsShell service is used to manage VSPackages registration.
